Telling the Time

This chapter is also easy because the world now lives by clock and

children learns intuitively to read the clock.

Children should know:

1 hour = 60 minutes

1 minute = 60 seconds

1 day = 24 hours.

Based on this one should be able to convert hours into minutes or seconds.

For example converting 9 hours and 50 minutes to seconds will be as follows:

Cross Multiply as follows:

1 hour     = 60 minutes

9 hours    = ? (how much)

Answer = (9 x 60)

             -----------   = 540 minutes

                       1

540 minutes + 50 minutes = 590 minutes.

Convert minutes to seconds

1 minutes        = 60 seconds

590 minutes    = ? (how much)

Cross multiply:    590 x 60 =  35400 seconds

Thus 9 hours and 50 minutes = 35400 seconds.
